Fitbit Review

As a Verizon Wireless Ambassador, I was sent a fun new gadget in the mail the other day, and I am so excited to share it with you…it’s a Fitbit! Not going to lie, I had never heard of this until it showed up in my mailbox (have I been living under a rock?!?) However, as a runner and health nut, I was really excited to try it out.

The Fitbit tracks your steps, distance, and calories burned. The coolest part is, you can sync it to you computer or some smartphones so you can check your progress during the day without having to check your Fitbit.

You can easily attach it to your pants, bra, etc. (I even attached mine to the inside of my boot when I went to dinner!) It’s very sturdy and doesn’t fall off easily. When you want to switch between screens you just tap or thump the front and it changes from distance, to calories, etc.

I obviously love competing with myself, so having my own Fitbit account so that I can track my progress, earn badges, and even have a little fun competing with friends. I like to try and outdo the day before, and earn more badges. Right up my alley!

The device is also sweat rain and splash proof. I have worn it for three days and am really loving it. I forget I’m wearing it, so it definitely doesn’t distract me or bother me during the day. I also like checking in and seeing how I am doing during the day. If I need to walk more, or burn more calories.

*Note, running on the treadmill will not track the distance properly. I ran 6 miles on the treadmill yesterday and it said I went four and a half miles. However it is still nice to have an approximation.

Guess what? Verizon Wireless has offered to give $5 off to RWS readers who purchase a Fitbit through this link: Fitbit

Thanks Verizon!

QOTD: What are your thoughts on the Fitbit? Have you heard of it and would you ever use one?

*Disclosure: I was provided with a device and phone service from Verizon Wireless

I have been thinking about one for a while, but then there are so many other different things that are similar to this that I am having a difficult time differentiating between them and deciding which I like best. I am leaning toward a Jawbone.

Sounds cool! I reviewed the Fitbit Aria and was amazed. Love it! Recently been wearing a pedometer too and am amazed in a bad way how inactive I am outside of my workouts. Boo.

I’ve heard of the Fitbit and it sounds like an interesting product, but it seems to me that it would be good for people who would benefit from a pedometer. I think if I’m going to spend money on anything, I’d get a Polar heart rate monitor so I can estimate calories burned during cross training.

I’ve been hearing a lot about these! I would be competitive just like you! 😉

I have had mine for a couple of months and really like! I really forget I have it on most of the time. I like having the daily goals and it does motivate me to do more- I am not happy if I don’t meet the goals!! I wore mine during the Goofy Challenge in January and it was pretty accurate! We walked around the parks after each race and on that Saturday, ended up with 24.45 miles and Sunday was 36.63 miles (races plus parks)! But I agree, when running on the treadmill, it does not track well and shorts me about 2-3 miles. But overall, that’s not a big deal for me.

Although I haven’t used the feature, you can also track your food and other exercise which could help with weight loss.

I love mine! Ill be testing out the Jawbone UP soon, but will still use my bit! My hubby and I got them with his new phone and I love how it has us walking more and dancing around the house for steps!

A few teachers I work with are obsessed with it and love competing against each other too! I don’t know if I would like it as much if it doesn’t also track my mileage ran correctly.

I’ve been wondering what this was! Sounds interesting — kind of like the Fuel band maybe from Nike?!? Might have to check it out!
