A Round About Way

Yall, it has been quite the week! We woke up this morning, again, to howling wind and rain, and of course tornado warnings. Thankfully it died down by lunch and has just been on and off rain. So as I stated yesterday, slight panic set in when our direct flight out of New Orleans was cancelled. Quickly we called Orbitz and talked to a very nice lady who helped us get a flight out of Pensacola. We were of course thrilled to still be going on Friday, however, driving two hours to the airport then flying to Atlanta then to California was not what I had in mind. We dealt with it and realize we are very blessed to not have a house underwater, but it was still a frustration. All was well until I realized out flight home would still have us landing in New Orleans….with a car over three hours away at the Pensacola airport. Crap.

After some freaking out on my part, and some creative thinking, a plan was born. So, yesterday after the weather died down, we drove two cars, dogs in tow, halfway to my parents house where they met us in one car. They took the dogs along with our other car and drove home. We then went and picked up a rental car that we are driving to Pensacola today and leaving for good. So when we fly home to NOLA, our car will be at my parents house and we can pick up the dogs and go home. WHEW! Got all that? We passed a ton of power trucks on the way to meet the folks, seriously about 50-60, which was awesome to see!

Oh, did I mention by the time most of you are reading this we will already be in Pensacola, as we had to leave the house at 4:45 this morning to get to the airport. Oy. Hopefully I will sleep on the planes. Also hopefully I will find a way to get a seat next to my husband. Double Oy. Either way, as I said before, we are so blessed that it wasn’t as bad as originally thought (heading straight for my house at 105 mph). Thank you to everyone who extended prayers and well wishes to us, it really meant a lot! There are still a lot of people facing a hard road so please keep praying for them. The photo below was taken about two miles from my house. Sad smile

So, instead of arriving at 9:15, we will get in about 2:00, and hopefully have time to hit the expo before dinner reservations. Be sure to follow me on Twitter and on my Facebook Fan Page as well as instagram (runningwithsass) so that you can see all the photos I am posting about the half marathon and Disneyland in general.

I will be attempting to update my blog with Disneyland posts while I am away, so stay with me if you want to see what is going on with the race and the west coast!

im so glad youre still getting where you need to be even though it’s been such a complicated process! praying for all those in your area affected by the storms <3 i have had a flight cancelled once when i was coming home from boston with my two 80 year old grandparents!! our flight was at 3pm and then it was moved to 5pm. a few minutes later it was delayed to 9:30pm, and we were really frustrated. by 6pm it had been cancelled and we had get on another flight (the only other available) which took us from boston to dallas to st. louis then FINALLY to pittsburgh. it was such a freaking mess!! hahaha. my poor grandparents were so tired by the end of it all. i felt awful!! we got home at like 3am lol. what an adventure!

Cancelled flights are so frustrating! I find flying itself to be stressful, and a cancelled flight just makes it a million times worse. 😛 Meg and I were in a total panic when our flight to HLS was cancelled at the very last minute. Luckily we got on a plane 3 hours later, so it wasn’t as bad as we thought it might be.

I’m glad you guys figured out a plan (albeit a complicated one!) to make things work for you. Have a safe flight! :)

I’m so glad you’re safe, even if flights do not appear to be on your side. :)

Yes. When I lived in Boston, I had a flight cancelled when I was trying to get home from Houston, and we didn’t find out until we were at the airport. A blizzard had settled over Boston, and luckily I was staying with family. Flights were entirely booked for the next day so I got a flight the day after that.

[…] Hurricane Isaac hit back at the end of August, but what people may not realize is that things aren’t quite back to normal for some people around here, but everyone is doing this best to get back to the way things were. I was reminded of this yesterday morning when Bobby and I headed down to the beach just a few miles from our house for a long run of nine miles. […]
